This is a book I came across fairly at random: I found this one in my local little free library in Bochum, Germany yesterday. Another thing I like a lot about short stories is that they have to work harder, in a way, because they do not have a couple hundred pages to get the job done.
The title of the book really fits the first few stories best — bad, ugly behavior in all sorts of shapes and forms, but particularly sexual bad behavior abounds.
That said, people being shall we say dicks and bitches and otherwise unkind is a leitmotif in all of the stories. A lot of the men in these stories are cruel to women.
And a number of the women are cruel to other women. Some of the women are cruel to themselves, but rarely to men not that that would make things better, necessarily. However, when a few of the women in these stories are strong, the men in the stories struggle to first of all realize and accept this. In this sense, the book is unsettling.
